Twenty-five hours into Prime Day, small- and medium-sized businesses had already exceeded $1 billion in sales worldwide, with 11 hours left to go, Amazon reported on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite major technical issues that Amazon said caused some shoppers to have difficulty shopping its site in the sale’s early hours, Prime Day grew even faster in its first 10 hours this year than last.
Electronics were among the bestsellers on Prime Day, including Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, Instant Pot 6 Qt 7-in-1 Multi Use, and Echo Dot.
This year, Amazon tied its annual Prime Day into its Whole Foods Market brick-and-mortar grocery stores, and the company said, “Prime members continue to adopt the new savings benefit at Whole Foods Market at one of the fastest rates we’ve seen.”
Amazon addressed the technical issues in its press release without providing details, referencing the fact that on its error pages it places pictures of dogs. “The challenges some customers experienced shopping yesterday have been resolved – we love dogs at our Amazon offices, not on our store,” said Cem Sibay, Vice President of Prime.
