Etsy is celebrating the 13-year anniversary of its founding by organizing a sale. As we previously reported, Etsy gave sellers instructions last month on how to participate (“create a sale by discounting your listings between 10% and 70% during the sales event, June 18-22”) – see more details in this Seller Handbook post.
In a post earlier today, David Zhang, General Manager of Etsy Markets, announced the news on the Etsy blog. The post includes stories from sellers who have been on the platform since Etsy’s launch in 2005.
An Etsy spokesperson told EcommerceBytes that shoppers can visit Etsy.com/on-sale to find a selection of items from across its most popular categories including home decor, jewelry, party supplies, and much more.
Etsy very much emphasizes its handmade goods through its marketing activities, but we noticed a category on the sale page advertising vintage goods (“Vintage on sale”); it clicked through to listings from the vintage category that sellers had put on sale for the event.
Esty pointed out some of the changes it’s seen since its founding in 2005: “We’ve gone from $1 million in GMS to $3.25 billion, 9,000 sellers to 2 million, 22,000 active buyers to 34.7 million, and in recent quarters we’ve seen over a billion visits to etsy.com.”
Zhang also thanked the Etsy community on behalf of the company.
