Texas is known for doing everything in a very big way, and it seems online shopping is no exception. Amazon announced it’s adding an eighth Fulfillment Center in the state to keep up with demand.
Amazon announced on Thursday plans to open the new one-million-square-foot Fulfillment Center in Coppell for larger customer items, such as big screen televisions, kayaks, and patio furniture.
The company has five current FCs in Texas in Coppell, Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Schertz that employ 10,000 fulltime hourly associates.
And it has two more FCs in San Marcos and Houston currently under construction.
It’s the 17th new Fulfillment Center for the US Amazon announced this year, and Amazon has announced plans this year that will bring the number of its UK FCs to 14 by next year.
Amazon Vice President of North American Operations Akash Chauhan said in the announcement, “Our ability to expand Texas operations within three short years is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce in the state. Customers are seeing on a regular basis Amazon’s customer obsession, innovative culture, and operational excellence – all of which are driven by the 10,000-plus Texans who work in Amazon fulfillment centers across the state. And we are excited to continue growing the team.”
