Why Amazon Changes Won’t Benefit eBay in the Long Run

Marketing expert Scott Smigler of Exclusive Concepts believes Amazon rivals may initially get a small boost thanks to the crackdown on Amazon 3P merchants, but he doesn’t believe it will have a net positive effect on sites like eBay.

Smigler is founder of Exclusive Concepts, which recently rebranded the company to EXCLUSIVE. He believes smaller merchants benefit from a Google-centric strategy that attracts high quality traffic from search result pages to their website. However, he said, “the challenge here is that Google sees Amazon as a threat and is rolling out its own marketplace where shoppers checkout without ever visiting a merchant’s website.”

That means many merchants must have a marketplace strategy in place, he believes. Smigler shared his thoughts about the recent changes coming from Amazon and how it impacts his clients in the recent issue of EcommerceBytes 411.
