eBay to Hold Buyer Promo in Canada in Attempt to Revive Sales

eBay Canada will hold a “Buy Canadian” event on September 19th to stimulate sales among Canadian shoppers. eBay sent a notice to sellers, advising them to prepare – this after some sellers had slowed their selling activities as far back as June.

Update: Here’s the link to the promo page on the eBay Canada website.

“The Canada Post uncertainty made it a tough summer for many sellers,” eBay wrote, “But with that behind us, it’s time to start listing the great inventory buyers are looking for. To highlight your great Canadian inventory, eBay will launch a “Buy Canadian” event on September 19th.”

The mention of Canada Post was a reference to the threat of a postal strike that began in June when the company advised its largest sellers to prepare for a possible disruption to the mail system.

While eventually the company and union were able to negotiate a deal, many sellers reported they put their eBay Stores on vacation mode, fearful of having orders stuck in transit in the event of a strike or worker lockout.

Some sellers said they didn’t receive the invitation, leading those posting on an eBay discussion board to wonder if eBay planned to promote only certain sellers’ listings during the Buy Canadian event on Monday.
