UPS Tests Flat-Rate Service for Small Packages

UPS is testing a new service that could prove popular with smaller online sellers who tend to favor USPS. According to EcommerceBytes 411, the UPS Simple Rate service offers flat-rate pricing, but is only available to a small number of shippers as part of a pilot program the shipping carrier is running.

FedEx came out with its own version of flat-rate pricing called OneRate three years ago, but it has not generally caught hold with online sellers.

According to EcommerceBytes 411, which broke the story on Monday, packages weighing up to 70lbs and measuring under 900 cubic inches can be shipped for $11.35 for 3-day delivery with no surcharges. UPS did not respond to inquiries.
