Amazon to Open Another Fulfillment Center in Illinois

Amazon.com will open yet another new fulfillment center, this one in Monee, Illinois. At the more than 850,000-square-foot facility, Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and consumer goods.

Last month, Amazon announced plans for a new 750,000 square-foot fulfillment center in Romeoville, Illinois for large items such as big-screen televisions, sports equipment or kayaks.

In June, it announced plans to build 2 FCs in Edwardsville, Illinois, and in May, plans to build one FC in Joliet, Illinois.

“We place our fulfillment centers close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and the growth in Illinois is directly tied to our increasing customer demand,” said Akash Chauhan, vice president of Amazon’s North America Operations. “Illinois is a great state to do business, and we are happy to be expanding there to serve customers.”

This marks the 18th new US Fulfillment Center Amazon has announced this year. Amazon has also announced plans this year that will bring the number of its UK FCs to 14 by next year.
