Amazon Announces Plans for Even More Fulfillment Centers

This week Amazon announced plans for two more Fulfillment Centers in the US, one in Illinois and one in Florida. They comprise the 15th and 16th FCs announced so far in 2016.

Amazon will open a 750,000 square-foot fulfillment center in Romeoville, Illinois to handle large items such as big-screen televisions, sports equipment and kayaks.

The Chicago Tribune noted, “After years of keeping physical operations out of Illinois to avoid sales taxes, Amazon has been rapidly ramping up operations in Will County.”

Amazon also announced plans this week to build an 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Jacksonville, Florida. It will handle small items such as books, electronics and consumer goods. According to the announcement, “Associates will work alongside innovative technologies to fulfill customer orders” – Amazon uses robots in many of its warehouses.
