Etsy is giving sellers time to transition to its new Listing Manager tool but plans to make it mandatory for all sellers beginning in July. Etsy said the newly rebuilt platform lays the groundwork for more changes ahead – what it called “high-impact seller services.”
Last week, Etsy said over 150,000 sellers voluntarily opted in to test the new Listings Manager since early February, and last week, Etsy began turning on the new Listings Manager to all sellers. “We hope to release it to everyone in the coming weeks,” the company said.
Sellers will still be able to access the old version until July 1, 2015. However, Etsy will stop supporting the old version on May 15, “which means it might not work as you’re used to.” And any new features that launch will launch in the new Listings Manager only.
Etsy warned that sellers who use older versions of Web browsers may encounter difficulties. “If you’re operating on an older browser, you may notice that certain pages will not load, or you may encounter bugs. In this case, we recommend updating to the latest version of your browser.”
In a discussion thread on Sunday, Etsy sellers discussed problems they were having editing listings – they reported getting an error message that the listing couldn’t be saved and to try again – though some found their listings were actually updated despite the error message.
An Etsy moderator responded, “We are not certain why some Chrome users have issues while others do not. Please update the browser if possible and disable extensions. Let us know if that helps and we can follow up.”
While the new Listing Manager takes some getting used to, some Etsy sellers who have made the transition said it saves them time and makes them more efficient. However, Etsy said it is making changes to the tool based on seller feedback, including the following:
- Titles/tags: You told us that you wanted to see your title while writing tags, so we added the title to the footer of the listing create/edit form.
- Description size: You told us that you couldn’t read your full description without scrolling, so we expanded the text box to allow you to see all the text.
- Tags in Quick Edit: You told us that you’d like to be able to edit your titles AND your tags in Quick Edit. We’re working on this now.
- Adjusting quantity for bulk renewals: We’re working on bringing back the ability to adjust the quantity of items when you renew in bulk.
