Did PayPal Just Acquire Israeli Security Firm?

Israeli press are reporting PayPal made another acquisition, this one a “predictive cyber security company.” According to, it’s PayPal’s second acquisition of an Israeli firm.

When asked to confirm the acquisition of CyActive, a PayPal spokesperson told EcommerceBytes, “We appreciate you reaching out, however we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

That indicates the acquisition did not yet take place, but what’s not clear is whether it’s pending. Globes said PayPal bought CyActive for $60 million, and wrote, “The deal has been signed and is expected to close shortly.”

A publication called Geektime said its source also said a deal was pending and explained how CyActive technology worked. “For example, it can see if an attack that occurred at another company could be slightly varied to breach your system, and prevents it before the attack could come through.”

This week, PayPal recently announced it acquired Paydiant, a firm working on an alternative to Apple’s mobile payment service.
