Etsy Supplies Limited-Edition Goods to Museum Gift Shop

Etsy collaborated with the American Museum of Natural History on a special project that brings Etsy products to the museum’s gift shop through the Etsy Wholesale program.

The project started with an invitation to some Etsy artisan sellers to a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum’s collections. They were then invited to create limited-edition products inspired by the tour to sell at the museum’s gift shop.

The Etsy Wholesale program is one way the marketplace is trying to scale its business – a challenge for a marketplace that relies heavily on handmade goods, but with growth essential as it readies an IPO on the NASDAQ exchange.

Sellers who posted their comments about the Etsy-museum collaboration were positive. “What a fantastic partnership for Etsy,” wrote one. “I’m glad to see the Museum offering handmade keepsakes in their gift shop that are inspired by their exhibits. It’s sad to see some gift shops of museums/zoos that offer “throw away” overpriced low quality goods. These beautiful handmade goods will surely be cherished by the Museum patrons!”

Another Etsy user said she thought all museums should get designers to design products for their gift shops.
