Readers are reporting that the left navigation bar on their eBay Store listings has disappeared. One seller opened a case on the Ecommerce EKG announcement board on Tuesday (February 24, 2015) to report the problem. The seller said they had contacted eBay customer support and was “informed they were aware of the problem but could not provide any information as to when or if this problem would be fixed.”
Another reader had also reported the problem on Ecommerce EKG on February 17th.
In fact, searching the eBay boards reveals that sellers have been regularly reporting such problems as far back as the fall of 2013, such as this thread started on September 2, 2013, that shows reports coming in regularly all the way up through this week.
One such report from a seller on February 21, 2015, described his or her efforts to get a resolution.
I have spoken to both first-line eBay support in Manila and also a very helpful eBay guy in Dublin.
Both have confirmed that eBay is aware of the problem of Shop Categories no longer being listed in the left-hand column of item pages and they have added my eBay Shop ID to a list of sites with this problem.
As I stated in an earlier post, it’s difficult to understand why only some eBay Shop sites would be affected – assuming the same logic path is always executed to test whether the radio button is set to “display shop header and categories”.
I’ve no idea why it’s taking so long to fix what would appear to be a very straightforward bit of coding that has worked OK for me ever since I upgraded to “Shop” status – but as a temporary measure I have used the facility to set 5 user-defined Categories in the Shop Header that is available on the Listing Frame page. It’s only a sticking plaster but better than nothing!
While the glitch has a long history, it seemed to be gaining steam this month. A thread about the issue was posted to eBay’s Technical Issues board on January 8, 2015, and more reports were added to the thread over the past several weeks. You can learn more about Store nav bars on the eBay help pages, and here’s a YouTube video for those unfamiliar with the eBay Store nav bar.
