eBay’s search engine began experiencing technical issues on Thursday. Users are complaining that when they are signed in to eBay, searches bring back zero results. Ironically, it’s the same day eBay announced the resignation of its Chief Technology Officer – eBay has not yet named a replacement.
A reader reported that when he entered a search he conducts regularly on eBay for Dept 56 listings, the search engine brought back zero results. “Usually there are thousands and thousands,” he said. He discovered that when he is signed out, the search brings back results, but when signed in, it brings back zero results.
Readers also reported it on the Ecommerce EKG board. “eBay Search not returning results that match keywords in main results, but returns matching results in “related” list below,” wrote the first user to file the report.
Users also turned to the eBay discussion board to report the problem.
In a thread titled, “Anyone else having problems with the search function?” started on Thursday afternoon in the Bidding & Buying board, an eBay buyer wrote, “I’m doing a general search, like I usually do, and getting zero results for what I’m searching for, but I’m getting “related to” items. Anyone else?”
Some users thought it might be related to the browser they were using, and some said eBay customer service seemed unaware of the issue.
The original poster replied to other comments writing, “I just posted it. I search for vintage Barbie, and I know there are typically over 200,000 listings. I’d be pretty bleepif I had auctions ending while this glitch is in play.”
Visit the Ecommerce EKG board and indicate if you’re having a problem or not when you’re signed in to eBay.
