Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said the company has a succession plan (“for me and all of our senior executives”), but clearly from this Geekwire article, he’s having too much fun as CEO to get people thinking there is anything imminent in the works.
Speaking at a conference in NYC, Bezos also talked about the failure of the Fire phone, and as Fortune reported, he said he has made “billions of dollars of failures at Amazon.com.”
But that doesn’t mean Amazon is finished with the phone – it’s “really early” for Fire, Bezos said, adding, “stay tuned.”
The fact there is a known successor would seem to indicate it’s an insider. Hint: it’s not Chief Financial Officer Tom Szkutak – he’s retiring in June and will be replaced by Brian T. Olsavsky, who joined Amazon in 2002 and is Vice President of Finance for the company’s global consumer business.
