This year, Independence Day falls on a Saturday (July 4, 2026), which means government agencies and many companies will observe the holiday a day early – but not so the Post Office. According to the USPS website, it will observe the holiday on July 4th, meaning post offices will be closed and the Postal Service will not deliver regular mail or packages on Saturday. That means Post Offices will be open and deliveries will occur as normal on Friday, July 3.
Today, eBay advised sellers on how it would be handling the holiday this year in the following post on the eBay Shipping board:
“As you prepare for the Independence Day holiday, we’d like to share an important update about shipping performance.
“Although Friday, July 3, 2026 is the observed Independence Day holiday, USPS will continue delivering packages on July 3.
“To help support sellers during the holiday period, eBay will not count July 3 as a shipping day for seller performance. If you have orders with a July 3, 2026 ship-by date, any late shipment defects associated with those orders will be removed automatically.
“These defect removals will be completed before the July 20 Seller Standards evaluation, so they will not impact your July seller performance.
“If you have orders with a July 3 ship-by date, no action is required on your part. We’ll automatically remove any applicable late shipment defects before the July 20 Seller Standards evaluation.”
The announcement is available on the eBay Shipping Announcement board.
