Thank God I wasn’t successful.
While FedEx, Amazon, chevron, General Motors, Eli Lily, occidental petroleum, and over 20 other corporations pay $0 in taxes. Not to mention companies like Pfizer that go overseas to pay next to nothing. We’re fools.
I’ve known that I was not responsible for sales tax in most states because of the $$ amount of “200” sales” requirements, and I don’t sell anywhere near the threshold in any state.
However, selling through Etsy I have no choice but to collect sales taxes.
Etsy is still not being transparent in posting taxes collected for the various states in any report. There is concern that these taxes are not being removed from the 1099-K earnings forwarded to the IRS. Unless a seller goes through each Etsy invoice manually for the period. Which is something I may need to do.
While my total Etsy sales in 2019 was down about $5K from the year before, I still made 339 sales to date. Lots of paper to go through.
Fortunately, online venues have done so much to ruin sales for people that they’re going offline in droves. And state governments, in their quest to fill up on 6-figure no-show senior executive assistant vice director jobs and the never-ending disaster of Indian IT support, no longer has the manpower to police flea markets and the like.

It’s criminal that large corporations are not paying taxes. Considering how much they make, I don’t see how they could have so many deductions that they would owe nothing. If they’re able to get their tax liability to zero with deductions, then why can’t the average citizen?
