eBay is further cementing its reputation as a daily deals site with the launch of a “Sweet 16 Deals” shopping promotion, this despite the decline of the daily deals fad of several years ago.
The 16-day promotion excludes most items on its marketplace, instead focusing on items available from its eBay.com/Deals website. eBay has said in the past that only the most trusted sellers are allowed to participate in the platform, including major consumer brands. (In 2017, it put the number of participants at 900.) That means most sellers will not benefit directly from the sale, though some sellers could see a bump in traffic from the marketing campaign.
The promotion kicks off on March 24 and runs through April 8 and spans sports memorabilia, home, tech, and fashion categories. Each day, eBay will launch a new offer at 8 am PT
eBay Chief Marketing Officer Suzy Deering said in the announcement, “Whether it’s a backyard transformation, team apparel for game day, or a wardrobe upgrade, we’re tapping into consumers’ springtime mindsets and giving our shoppers amazing prices on exactly what they need to refresh this season from our dynamic marketplace. For 16 days, we’re giving our shoppers unbeatable savings on home, tech, fashion, sporting goods and more, all with free shipping.”
eBay offers a Best Price Guarantee on items purchased through the promotion – it limits price matching to approved competitors including Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, HomeDepot.com, Jet.com, Sears.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, andWayfair.com.
