Selling on Instagram Now Possible with Checkout Feature

Selling on Instagram Now Possible with Checkout Feature

Selling on Instagram is now possible with checkout, a feature announced today that lets shoppers pay for items directly in posts. The checkout on Instagram feature is currently limited to US shoppers from a small number of brands. If and when the beta program is expanded, it’s something small sellers may embrace as they already use social media sites to draw attention to their products. Note that Instagram, founded in 2010, was acquired by Facebook in 2012.

As we previously reported, ecommerce platform BigCommerce integrated with Instagram in 2017. BigCommerce Chief Product Officer Jimmy Duvall said today that BigCommerce merchants have seen incredible success using integrations with Shopping on Instagram to convert fans and followers into loyal customers. “The ability to go all the way through the social commerce journey and complete a purchase right there in the app makes its evolution to a vibrant next-generation marketplace complete.”

Instagram announcement follows:

Today, we’re introducing checkout on Instagram. When you find a product you love, you can now buy it without leaving the app.

When you tap to view a product from a brand’s shopping post, you’ll see a “Checkout on Instagram” button on the product page. Tap it to select from various options such as size or color, then you’ll proceed to payment without leaving Instagram. You’ll only need to enter your name, email, billing information and shipping address the first time you check out.

Once your first order is complete, your information will be securely saved for convenience the next time you shop. You’ll also receive notifications about shipment and delivery right inside Instagram, so you can keep track of your purchase.

Checkout on Instagram is currently in closed beta for businesses and available to people in the US. You can find the brands currently available below — and more will be coming soon!

  1. Its pointless if its just from “brands”

its also not liable because you need a facebook account to do it, and facebook is evil.

I won’t be shopping on instagram until they allow all sellers to use it and not demand you have a facebook.
