The big jewelry sellers don’t necessarily need this service. Rather than limiting it to “more than two dozen of eBay’s top-rated sellers,” they should make it available to other honest sellers who would like to be able to sell high priced jewelry without fear of being scammed. So many sellers say they won’t sell expensive things on eBay because of the lack of seller protection, so why is eBay limiting this service?
I saw that announcement and got all excited… until I realized its not available to 99.9% of the rest of the universe. I will not buy jewelry on ebay, too easy to get faked out and authentification is a hassle. Moves like this continue the trend of “we say we want fair trade but what we really want is cronyism.”
If ‘authentication’ is a hands off process, that is, relying on examination of photos by a 3rd party then
it is essentially a joke.
