Will Amazon Digital Day Benefit Online Merchants?

Amazon Digital Day

Amazon Digital DayAmazon is holding a major sale on digital content on Friday, December 29, 2017, as part of its Second Annual Digital Day. Last year, the 24-hour event was held on Friday, December 30, 2015, when Amazon advertised “get up to 50% off over a thousand TV shows, movies, music, apps, mobile games, eBooks and more.”

This year, Amazon is advertising “save up to 80% on over 5,000 apps, games, movies, eBooks, and more.” Here are some details:

“Customers can visit amazon.com/digitalday to sign up to receive notifications when the deals begin, or follow #DigitalDay for updates. Customers may also shop Digital Day deals using the Amazon App and the Amazon Appstore (to download, visit amazon.com/mobileapps or amazon.com/androidapp from your mobile browser). As a preview of the sale, some deals will be available starting as early as December 26, with the biggest savings launching at 12:00 am ET time on December 29.”

It’s a smart move by the marketplace, since Amazon gift cards are a popular holiday gift and many people will be looking to go on a shopping spree for themselves. Online merchants are not the beneficiary of Digital Day, however, since the sale applies only to digital content. But if it gets people visiting Amazon, they could benefit indirectly.
