Amazon Opens Robotic Fulfillment Center in Canada

Vice President of Amazon Canada and Amazon Mexico Alexandre Gagnon posted the following announcement on the Amazon corporate blog on Thursday.

Today, Amazon had the pleasure of hosting Canada’s Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, for the official launch of Amazon’s first robotics fulfillment center (FC) in Canada. On his tour of our brand new Brampton, Ontario robotics facility, the Prime Minister, learned how to stow and pick customer orders at a robotics work station, packed a customer order, and then gave his very own “All Hands” to the Brampton team of more than 500.

The Brampton FC is expected to be Amazon’s largest Canadian fulfillment center with over 700 new jobs created for this site. Amazon is continuing to grow and hire in Canada: we just announced we are hiring for more than 2,000 seasonal associate roles across the country, we are expanding our current team of 2,500 Amazonians across various business lines and recruiting for all levels, and we are preparing for the opening of our newest Amazon Web Services cloud computing region in the Prime Minister’s hometown of Montreal. Our corporate offices and development centers in Toronto and Vancouver are growing at a rapid pace as teams across Amazon expand throughout Canada. In fact, we have nearly 500 roles open for just those two sites!

(And we are already looking forward to next year’s celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday!)

It was an exciting day for the Amazon team, not just in Canada but for many of us around the world. We are proud of our ability to invest in robotics technologies and facilities around the globe and even more proud of the culture Amazon has fostered in its fulfillment centers, offices, software development centers, research labs and pick-up locations. The 268,000-plus Amazonians worldwide make days like this possible.
