Etsy Puts Out Casting Call to Sellers

Etsy launched a global ad campaign on Wednesday featuring videos of vignettes that highlight products found on Etsy. Now the company is inviting sellers to submit their own videos for a chance to be featured in the marketing campaign.

The invitation explained the theme of the campaign: “Life is beautiful, not because of our similarities, but because of our differences. It’s our mission to celebrate those differences.”

It went on to show one of the videos, stating, “That’s why we need you, Etsy sellers. We made this video and would like to keep making more with the participation of Etsy’s community (you!). We’d love to feature your products (or even you) in our new campaign.”

The video shows people removing items from their bedside tables as part of their daily routine. “In order to stitch new scenes together, we’ll need your video to match the actions in our video as closely as possible. We encourage you to get creative! For bedside tables, think putting your product in a drawer, taking it out, placing it on a table, or picking it up.”

Etsy went on to explain, “Bedside tables, while practical, have an intimate connection to our daily lives that is unique for each of us.”

Etsy announced the campaign on the company blog – “Difference Makes Us speaks to the breadth of the items for sale in the Etsy market, and highlights the people that browse and discover them on Etsy every day.”

Etsy said the campaign came to life on Wednesday through a series of digital, video, and social placements. In addition to video submissions, sellers can share photos on social networking sites using the campaign hashtag.

Sellers can share their products and the creative stories behind them on Instagram and other social media channels with the hashtag #DifferenceMakesUs. “Each week, we’ll announce opportunities for you to take part in the campaign by posting weekly photo challenges on the @EtsySuccess Instagram channel. Join in for a chance to have photos of your items featured on Etsy’s global Instagram accounts. To be considered, be sure to use the hashtags #DifferenceMakesUs and #EtsySuccess on your Instagram posts.”
