Etsy Tweaks Navigation in Shops

Etsy made a slight change to how visitors navigate a Shop’s listings. Previously, shoppers could scroll through the first 24 items in a Shop, and then have the option to view “More items” (which would show another 24 items) or “View all items.”

As of Tuesday (May 24th), shoppers only have the option to “View all items” once they’ve viewed the first 24 items on a Shop homepage. The View All Items button will load a paginated view of shop listings, displaying 96 items per page.

Etsy made the decision after beginning a test on May 16 – the reason for the testing: “We heard from some of you that continuous scrolling while loading more items isn’t ideal on older web browsers, and doesn’t allow buyers to keep track of where they are while browsing.”

The results of testing: “This test did not impact conversion or sales, however, we saw increased listing views, and shoppers experienced fewer errors while using older browsers. The paginated view also allows shoppers to keep track of where they are while browsing.”

Reaction to the change in this thread was overwhelmingly positive. “This is much better than scrolling until you die of frustration,” wrote one seller. However, a number of sellers said 96 items pages was too much. “All that scrolling for one page is pretty tedious. I think cutting it in half, to 48, would be more user friendly,” one seller wrote.
