eBay Runs Promotion to Attract New Consumer Sellers

eBay kicked off a promotion targeted at people new to selling on its marketplace. “Buyers love hunting for treasures like yours,” eBay states on the landing page. “You’ll love the extra cash and the opportunities you create from selling! Plus, you can even sell the first three items you list for FREE.”

With the promotion, invited sellers can list up to three auction or fixed-price listings and pay no insertion fees and no final value fees – but only for those first three listings. One-day and 3-day listing durations are excluded, and the promotion is in addition to the free listings per month as part of the everyday rate plan.

The promotion is by invitation only, and users must first activate the promotion before getting the special rates. “See how easy selling can be,” eBay urged invitees.

The landing page also includes a video on how to sell on eBay.

The marketplace has been focusing on attracting what it calls “consumer sellers” to the site, with initiatives such as eBay Valet and a partnership with Shyp. And its new branded shipping boxes urge buyers who receive items in the packages to start selling for themselves (“Put this box to good use: Start selling on eBay“).

Last year, eBay CEO Devin Wenig said he intended to revitalize consumer selling, calling it a key eBay strength.

The new promotion kicked off on May 6 and runs through May 26th. All other fees apply, see invitation for details and restrictions.
