Google Opens Store on eBay

The two companies don’t always get along, but it appears eBay and Google are entering a new phase in their relationship: Google has launched a Store on eBay.

The Official Google Store on eBay currently has two products for sale: The Google Chromecast Audio – WiFi Audio Streaming – which has 75 ratings and 30 reviews; and the Google Chromecast – Wireless Media Streaming – which has no ratings or reviews.

Despite showing that Google sold 191 of the latter product, the Google eBay account has only 10 feedback ratings (100% positive).

What is Chromecast? The product description explains, “Chromecast is a media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Simply use your mobile device and the TV you already own to cast your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports, games and more. Chromecast works with iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook.”

eBay and Google have had a rocky relationship – eBay was upset when Google launched what the media dubbed a “PayPal killer” (the Boston Tea Party) and eBay talked smack about Google Adwords. And as anyone who follows eBay knows, Google punished eBay over its SEO practices from which eBay has yet to recover.

Does the new Google eBay Store signal a change in the two companies’ dealings with each other?
