eBay launched a clever social media campaign in the UK to attract holiday shoppers. Four eBay experts (Elves) will help solve “Christmas conundrums” around the country. eBay is calling it the world’s first social gift concierge.
People can ask for help with getting ideas for gifts by tweeting to @eBay_uk using the hashtag eBayElves.
“Four specialist gifting helpers will be on hand to solve present-hunting predicaments until 20th December 2015 (perfect for those last minute purchases) and can be reached simply via Twitter @eBay_uk using #eBayElves. One of the experts will respond with a hand-selected suggestion from the millions of items available from ebay.co.uk. They may even reply with a carol or two!”
Each eBay elf has a specialty – for instance, @eBay_UK_Alice provides tips on “kids, activities and family fun,” while @eBay_UK_Greg handpicks the most original gifts and shares gift-wrapping ideas.
Since the launch of the campaign, shoppers have been asking for help. One shopper asked eBay UK for help, tweeting “@eBay_UK I have 3 men (my gardeners) to buy for under a tenner each. Help ! #eBayelves.”
The response came from eBay elf Greg, who replied on Twitter with a link to warm fingerless gloves, tweeting, “Gardeners need warmth when working through a frosty winter. Warm the hands and warm their hearts.”
Etsy is also running a social media marketing campaign tied to holiday shopping, as we described last week.
