eBay Axes Bulk Label Printing Tool

eBay is discontinuing its new bulk label printing tool, though it gave sellers no warning. Sellers began reporting the tool missing in late July via the eBay discussion boards.

It appears eBay will begin automatically directed sellers to a previous version of the tool beginning Tuesday, although sellers will be able to continue using the new version until September 1st (that is, if sellers can find it).

eBay did not provide a response to our inquiry sent on Thursday asking for more information about the discontinuation of the new version of the bulk label printing tool.

In response to a seller who reported the feature missing, another replied, “I was using the new bulk shipping shipping tool and really liked it. I haven’t been able to find it all week. The old Bulk shipping tool won’t always print out custom text on my packing list or labels. Sometimes it will send custom text to be printed out but 75% of the time it dont. I never had this issue with the new bulk shipping tool. How do I make sure my custom text are for sure going to be on labels before I pay and print?”

Another seller said when they called eBay Customer Support, none of the four reps they spoke to were familiar with the tool. “Scary,” the seller wrote.

Here’s a copy of the email letter eBay sent to some sellers about 2 weeks after the tool disappeared:

We know you’re not a frequent user of our bulk label printing tool, but we wanted to let you know about some changes to how bulk labels are printed.

At this time we have decided to discontinue the new version of the bulk label printing tool. We will continue to refine the tool, and may offer it again if we feel it’s beneficial to sellers. Starting on August 18th you will be automatically directed to the previous version of the tool. However you may continue to use the new version until September 1st; at which time it will be disabled completely.

Bulk label printing will still be available after September 1st, using the previous version of the tool. As a part of the transition back to the older version you will no longer have access to your pre-sets, and you will also find that there are other differences in the bulk editing process.

Once again we would like to thank you for providing feedback on the new version of the bulk label printing tool. Feedback from customers like you helps us improve our programs and tools, which makes buying and selling on eBay even easier.

Have a great day and thank you for selling on eBay.

We’ll update the story if we hear anything from eBay about the decision to discontinue the new tool.
