eBay Runs Promotion to Encourage Long Duration Listings

eBay is running a promotion to encourage sellers to list long-duration, fixed-price listings. Sellers who are invited and who activate the promotion can list up to 2,000 30-day fixed-price listings and pay no insertion fees.

However, some sellers received invitations for the same promotion but instead of 30-day listings, they were only good for Good Til Canceled (GTC). Be careful, one reader warned – the GTC are free only for the first 30-day cycle.

There are numerous restrictions – the sale does not apply to relisted items, and invited sellers must select “Activate offer” in the invitation email or on the promotion landing page. Any listings created prior to the time of activation will not be eligible.

One seller discussing the promotions on the eBay boards said they had received an invitation to open a store for $5.95 a month for the first 4 months (eBay Stores provide sellers with free listings depending on the plan) – they then received the free-listing promotion the next day. “They need a new marketing team! They would have been better off waiting until the store promotion had ended to see how many they could coax into that promo. I’ll forgo the store for now as I have another month of free listings and a flooded marketplace.”

All existing selling limits as well as category and item limits apply and may prevent them from creating the maximum number of listings.

The promotion kicked off on May 26 and runs through Sunday, May 31, 2015. All other fees apply, see eBay website for details and restrictions.
