Etsy Reminds Sellers of Postage Rate Changes

Given the importance of shipping to all online retailers, it was no surprise that Etsy reminded sellers of changes to postage rates through a blog post announcement. “In January 2015, while Canada Post has planned changes as expected, USPS rates and services will remain the same,” Etsy told its sellers.

The online marketplace published a detailed rate comparison chart to illustrate how Canada Post rates for specific shipping services differ in the New Year compared to 2014 rates.

Sellers who purchase Canada Post Shipping Labels on Etsy should expect to see on average a 3.87% increase in their domestic shipping rates, a 5.81% increase in US shipping rates and a 3.62% increase in non-US international rates. But parcels shipped to the US and internationally that fall into some weight categories using Light Packet will experience a significant decrease.

“Since sellers using Etsy Shipping Labels receive discounts on most mail classes, the rates you see in the charts may be lower than those available at retail post office counters,” it explained.

Etsy also advised sellers that changes to Canada Post shipping rates would automatically be reflected on any Etsy Shipping Labels purchased on or after January 12, 2015.

Sellers posted questions and shared their advice for colleagues on the comments section of the Etsy blog post announcing the news. They also shared feedback, such as the seller who wrote, “I too wish Etsy would go back to posting the secondary postal rate costs so buyers could easily see that they save money by purchasing more than one item.”
