ThredUP Offers to Sell Your Handbag for Zero Commission

Online resale site thredUP is running a promotion in which it will sell women’s used handbags and give 100% of the selling price to the consignor. The promotion runs through the end of the year.

ThredUP is a combination consignment service/marketplace. People order a “cleanup bag” and send the items they want thredUP to sell for them in the bag, with free shipping. The company then lists the items for sale on its site and gives a percentage of the selling price to the consignor. It only sells women’s and children’s clothing and accessories.

If thredUP rejects any items, it will donate them to charity or – if the consignor wants the items back, he or she pays thredUP $12.99 return postage.

With the new #bagUP promotion, thredUP will take no commission on handbags received through the end of the year – sellers with handbags already listed on the site will automatically be opted into the program.

To help spread the word, thredUP is also giving away a designer handbag every week through the end of the year.

It’s a clever promotion that seems likely to bring more shoppers as well as consignors to the site.
