What Marketplace Sellers Want – A Bonanza Wish List

If you sell online, it’s probably no surprise to learn that shipping and greater exposure top sellers’ wish list of improvements to marketplaces. In this case, the data comes from a survey conducted by online marketplace Bonanza, and the top wishes are for shipping labels and more advertising.

Two weeks ago Bonanza asked sellers to help guide it toward making the best possible marketplace in 2014. The company published the results on its blog on Thursday, reporting a record number of responses that provided some “great feedback.”

Bonanza sellers’ wish for more advertising is likely to come true. Founder and CEO Bill Harding shared his plans for the marketplace for the coming year last month, telling EcommerceBytes he had budgeted $1 million in advertising for 2014.

Interestingly sellers also expressed a desire to have an auction format and more payment options, including the ability for buyers to pay with credit card. Sellers also expressed a wish for better categories, including concern for handmade items.

The seller wish list follows in order of most-requested enhancements:

Keep Closed Listings Available for Repeat Listings – 4%
Offline Editing Tool for Listings – 3%
Bonanza-made Templates Available for Listings – 2%
More Customizable Booth/ Storefront – 2%
Better End of Sale Slip (To be used as receipt/ mailed to buyer/ looks good printed in greyscale.) – 2%
Make it Easier to Edit Imported Listings – 2%
Sync Imported Listings (Sales made in one translate to sales in the other) – 2%
Better Sync with PayPal (ID Bonanza sales better) – 2%

In announcing the seller survey last month, Bonanza had told sellers it valued its entrepreneurial community and “readily acknowledge that many of the best improvements come from the feedback of our incredibly talented sellers.” But the marketplace warned Thursday that not all features in the survey results would be implemented, saying however, “this gives us a clear idea of what is important to you and we’re all about making you happy.”
