Did you know that Walmart offers a program that lets third-party sellers give incentives to buyers to leave reviews? However, Walmart’s Post-Purchase Reviews program is not available to all sellers. In fact, sellers on most marketplaces can get in trouble if they so much as encourage buyers to leave reviews, depending on the approach they take.
Walmart reminded sellers of its program last month with the following announcement:
Want more customer reviews? Our program makes it easy!
Tap into the Post-Purchase Reviews program to get more reviews and help boost conversion. After a customer buys your item, they’re offered a promo code incentive in exchange for providing feedback.
Please note: Not all sellers and items are eligible for the Post-Purchase Reviews program. Eligibility may vary based on an internal algorithm.
Sellers are prohibited from offering incentives to shoppers outside of this program and a few other programs it offers, as Walmart explains on its website:
Can I email customers to request feedback on items they have purchased?
No. Soliciting feedback, offering a gift card in exchange for a review or including any promotional inserts in packages is strictly prohibited and may result in account suspension or termination. Additionally, soliciting feedback from customers is prohibited unless it’s through a Walmart-approved reviews provider.
How can I increase reviews for my items?
There are many ways to increase your Marketplace reviews:
You can encourage your customers to submit more reviews with Review Accelerator.
You can work with an approved third-party Solution Provider to conduct product sampling and generate authentic customer reviews.
You can import reviews from your external website by syndicating them to Walmart.com.
At the top of that page, Walmart informs sellers that reviews left on sellers’ listings are regulated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
In addition, Walmart runs a program through Field Agent similar to Amazon’s Vine review program (“Vine Voices have the unique opportunity to order items free of charge and share their product experiences with Amazon customers to help them make informed buying decisions”), as we reported in 2022.
