Etsy has a new Children and Baby Products policy that will take effect on June 2, 2026. In an announcement on April 30, Etsy provided the following list of what was being updated in its House Rules “to strengthen our approach to safety and clarify which children’s products are not allowed on Etsy”:
- Clearer restrictions on products with small parts that may pose choking or ingestion risks
- Updated examples of prohibited infant sleep furniture and accessories
- Additional examples of prohibited items, such as infant neck flotation devices
- Safety guidance for children’s apparel and related items
Etsy also updated its Seller Handbook guide that highlights key considerations to help sellers “design, list, and sell children’s products that meet Etsy policies and regulatory standards.”
Etsy expert (and seller) Cindy Baldassi posted about the policy on LinkedIn, specifically calling out some issues that could catch sellers by surprise:
- an expanded magnet ban
- full ban on toy balls under 1.75 inches (there are lots of existing listings breaking this new rule)
- water beads listed as craft supplies or anything other than toys are also now prohibited
She also published a post on her Patreon describing in detail the changes and how they would impact sellers. She included a link to Etsy’s policy formerly called “Children’s Clothing and Products,” noting that Etsy had expressly added quite a few things to the newly named policy, “including some that Etsy had already been removing, but didn’t bother to mention anywhere prior to today.”
Baldassi said that Etsy uses bots to enforce policies, warning sellers that bots can make mistakes and that sellers “should be prepared for more takedowns of legitimate listings.” She also advised sellers to think about listings very carefully in a section of her post titled, “A Product Does Not Have To Be Intended For Children For It To Be Banned Under The New Policy.”
