Etsy Briefly Blocks Sellers from Signing in Monday Morning

Sellers were briefly blocked from accessing their Etsy accounts early Monday morning, March 3rd. Sellers turned to Down Detector to report the issue, with someone reporting the issue and writing, “And here.. we.. go!” at 6:37 am.

Sellers reported that when they tried to sign in, the Etsy screen displayed the message, “You Have Been Blocked,” causing some sellers to stress because they needed to message customers and process orders.

Etsy acknowledged the problem on its “site issues” status page at 6:49 am, writing “We are currently experiencing an issue and are investigating.” At 6:50, it said, “A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.” And at 7:26 am, it declared the issue resolved.

Sellers shared advice on the Etsy discussion boards in a thread titled, “Site-Wide BLOCKED FROM ETSY.” At 6:42 am, a seller explained what they were experiencing:

“I was suddenly blocked as well as other sellers. The IP address underneath the You’re Blocked popup from Etsy has a different IP address than mine. The one shown is IP 108.25.16.76. This is NOT my IP address. Not sure whose working so I’m including all forum moderators and manager.”

Once they were able to access their account, they explained how stressful it had been, writing at 7:08 am:

“Yes, all is ok. I just signed in and was greeted with an Etsy survey asking if I’m enjoying the site. LOL. I’m over here sweating with my stomach doing flips and cart wheels. What an experience that was!!”

Sellers commonly feel relief upon learning an issue isn’t isolated to them, such as the seller who had written on Down Detector, “Oh good, I’m not the only one Etsy is “bot blocking” then?”

At 8:47 am, an Etsy moderator thanked sellers for reporting the issue and said, “While this appears to have resolved, our team is investigating the occurrence.” The moderator said sellers should follow the advice given by a seller in the thread “as it contains helpful information on clearing the error”:
