Amazon Updates Product Attributes on December 11th

Sellers will have to conform to new product attribute requirements when creating listings for all products except those in the media, digital and handmade categories. Amazon provided a spreadsheet showing which product types and attributes were changing.

The rationale for the change: “These updates will reduce listing errors caused when attributes are required but may not be marked as “required” when you list a product. The changes are also designed to help customers make more informed purchase decisions.”

Amazon did not explain the rationale for making the change during the busy holiday season. However, it said existing listings won’t be affected, although, “When you edit an existing listing, you may be asked to provide additional information to meet the new requirements.”

Not all sellers will see an immediate change when creating listings – Amazon will gradually roll out the changes to all sellers between December 11, 2023 and February 1, 2024, it said.

As the changes roll out, sellers who use the “Add Products” page will see updated requirements when they create or edit listings.

Sellers commenting on the Amazon Announcement Board post had concerns based on mistakes they had seen in the past with previous updates to product attributes.
