Topping off the gas tank? There’s an app for that – or at least, an app that allows you to pay for it. PayPal announced a large chain of convenience stores in the Southeast has launched a mobile app that allows people to pay at the pump using their mobile device.
The MAPCO chain launched the MY MAPCO app on iOS and Android, with PayPal as the exclusive payment option. It’s currently available in 276 MAPCO locations across the U.S.
“With the MY MAPCO app, people in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee can pay for gas on their mobile phones without ever needing to open up their wallets. And as an added benefit, consumers using the app will get five cents back on every gallon filled.”
PayPal Vice President Brad Brodigan said not only did the app make it faster to pay, “it also makes the transaction more secure by helping avoid fraudulent transactions, as it eliminates the need to publicly share credit card information or carry large amounts of cash.”
You can read about the new app on the PayPal blog and on the MAPCO Mart blog.
