Amazon Prime members pay an annual fee to receive free 2-day shipping, and in some cities, they can receive orders in a matter of hours. Amazon promises to continue to expand its free 2-hour delivery service to additional cities in 2015, starting with Atlanta and Dallas.
Amazon Prime Now is currently available in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Miami, Dallas, and Atlanta and applies to “tens of thousands of daily essentials.”
The service is available for free but only to Prime members – and for $7.99/delivery, Amazon will double the speed, delivering items in 1 hour.
Prime Now is available from 8 am to 10 pm seven days a week in Dallas, and 8 am to 12 midnight in Atlanta. Customers must use the Amazon Prime Now mobile app (iOS and Android) to schedule deliveries.
When Amazon kicked off the service in Manhattan in December, a spokesperson told EcommerceBytes that while third-party products were not included at that time, “the service is just getting started.”
