eBay Runs 5-Day Listing Promotion for All Sellers

eBay is running a 5-day promotion to encourage sellers to list longer-duration listings using the fixed-price format. Sellers can list up to 1,000 fixed-price listings over the course of the 5 days and pay no insertion fees. However, they must first activate the promotion to get the special rates.

The promotion appears to be targeted especially toward casual sellers or “consumer sellers,” a group eBay is counting on to help it turn around the Marketplaces business. The landing page says, “Make cash from items around your home – It’s easy to cash in last year’s items for this year’s adventures.” And it provides the average selling price for four items (game cosoles, handbags, cameras and athlethic shoes) showing a seller could make $635 just for selling those four items.

It also provides links to guides on how to sell particular types of items.

The promotion, which kicked off on June 25 and runs through June 29th, is open to all sellers. That’s rare these days – eBay has generally limited promotions to a subset of sellers who receive invitations to participate.

The promotion is limited to 30-day or Good Til Cancelled duration, and only newly listed items apply.

As usual, all existing selling limits and category and item limits apply and may exclude sellers from creating the maximum number of listings in the promotion. “Most categories are included,” according to eBay’s announcement.

Note that the promotional rate for Good Til Cancelled listings applies only to the initial listing; eBay explains, “renewals will count toward your monthly listing allotment if available, or will be charged the standard insertion fee rates.”

All other fees apply, see eBay website for details and restrictions.
