Promo Gaffe Benefits eBay Store Sellers

eBay ran a promotion intended to give sellers twice as many free Store listings as they are usually entitled to, but a glitch means some eBay Store owners have sixteen times as many free listings. That’s because there are three levels of eBay Store subscriptions, but the promotion activation link included in everybody’s invitation was for the Anchor Store tier.

The original promotion, described in the Monday issue of Newsflash, offered sellers who activated the promotion up to 150 additional fixed-price listings for Basic Stores, 500 additional fixed-price listings for Premium Stores, and 2,500 fixed-price additional listings for Anchor Stores. (The promotion is by invitation only.)

In its email sent out on Tuesday evening, eBay wrote:

“Our sincerest apologies for sending you an incorrect “Double Your Free Listings” offer and activation link. We will honor the offer you originally received – up to 2,500 free fixed price listings through August 31 – if you activate the offer now, or have already activated the offer.

“Please note: The Promotional Offers module in My eBay (under “All Selling”) will state “500 free* fixed price listings and 100 free auction-style listings in collectibles categories”, however any fixed price listings created above this amount – up to 2,500 – will be automatically credited within a few days of your next notice.”

The promotion wasn’t sent to all eBay Store sellers – according to the original invitation, only eBay’s “most valuable subscribers” – so it’s not known how many sellers will be able to take advantage of the extra free listings.
