Etsy to Work on Letting Sellers Appeal Listing Violations

Etsy offers account-level appeals, and this year, it’s going to expand listing-level appeals that are currently limited to appealing violations of its Creativity Standards. “Our goal is to have broad appeals coverage by the end of this year,” Etsy announced on July 1, 2026.

Etsy published its 2025 Transparency Report on Wednesday where it outlined its 2025 investments in keeping Etsy safe, including adding a new Policy Violations page in Shop Manager; expanding policy education resources; and improving policy enforcement. It also added stronger protections against spam, scams, counterfeit goods, and unsafe products last year.

An interesting statistic it shared: 92% of order issues resolved directly between buyers and sellers without Etsy’s involvement.

The Etsy 2025 Transparency Report also outlined the company’s priorities for 2026:

In 2026, our priorities include improving our ability to detect and remove items that do not belong on Etsy, giving sellers clearer information when they are affected by enforcement decisions, and expanding pathways for sellers to seek additional review.

Our key focus areas include:

Strengthening content detection and enforcement efforts: We are expanding our detection and enforcement systems to remove policy-violating content quickly, and the wider introduction of LLM-based detection technology last year is already improving speed and accuracy. We’re continuing to build on that progress, and we are focused on addressing new abuse trends, such as the misleading use of AI imagery.

Expanding policy education and enforcement transparency: We recently launched more targeted enforcement notifications for a subset of policy enforcement actions, including Creativity Standards and Prohibited Items. In 2026, we plan to expand these enhanced notifications across more policy areas so sellers can better understand enforcement decisions and avoid future policy violations.

Expanding listing-level appeals: Last year, we introduced a new listing-level appeals process in addition to our account-level appeals system. We focused initially on violations of our Creativity Standards, and we plan this year to scale the system to include our broader policy ecosystem and seller community. Our goal is to have broad appeals coverage by the end of this year.

Feel free to share in the comments how big a deal it is to be able to appeal a listing policy violation on Etsy.
