Amazon Executive Shares AI Hack: Get Price-Drop Alerts

On Tuesday we published an article about eBay executives’ thoughts on AI and agentic shopping, including three of the ways they said AI would impact ecommerce. But Amazon executives also weighed in recently with their thoughts about AI and shared ways they use it in their daily lives. One in particular caught our eye:

AI Price-Drop Alerts
Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, shared how he shops on Amazon using its AI-powered shopping assistant called Rufus. We’ve written about Amazon’s AI-powered “price history” link on product detail pages, which is something sellers will likely find extremely helpful. But Herrington shared that you can also “ask Rufus to alert you if the price drops, and even automatically buy it for you once it does.”

AI as a Personal Household Assistant
Kelly MacLean, Vice President of Amazon Ads, connects an AI assistant to her family members’ calendars and apps. She said “it turns everything into one clear weekly brief, providing daily updates, recommendations, and proactive multi-month views. It also suggests exercise windows, specific workouts, meal planning, and recipes based on the day.”

Conceivably sellers could do the same for their business calendars and tasks (let us know if you’ve done so and how it’s working out).

Summary: Start Small with AI, Experiment Often
Other Amazon executives shared ways they use AI in last week’s blog post, which ended with the following advice:

“Whether it’s automating routine tasks, preserving family traditions, or simply finding more time in a busy day, AI is becoming less about the technology itself and more about what it helps you accomplish.

“The best AI hack? Start small, experiment often, and find the tools that work for your life—not someone else’s.”
