Amazon Gives Sellers Restock Suggestions Based on Its Demand Forecasting

Amazon wants sellers to have enough inventory on hand to fulfill orders, even sellers who handle their own fulfillment (FBM, or Fulfillment by Merchant). It’s now sharing advice in Seller Central so sellers know when to replenish their stock.

Amazon is using demand forecasting and demand trends using artificial intelligence (AI) models. Amazon explained of the new restock recommendations feature, “It calculates suggested restock quantities and restock-by dates for your products that meet specific criteria, including active sales in the last three months, projected demand, and current days of supply less than 14 days.”

According to Friday’s announcement, restock recommendations provide sellers with the following:

  • Suggested restock quantities based on current inventory and projected two-week demand across all locations.
  • Estimated days of supply based on the projected demand for your products.
  • Forecasted eight-week demand trends using artificial intelligence models.

Some sellers may not see the feature unless their products meet the following three criteria:

  • The product must have had active sales in the last three months.
  • Current inventory must be zero, or current days of supply must be less than 14 days.
  • The product must have projected demand (non-zero) in the next 14 days.

Readers can find the announcement and ask questions on Amazon Seller Central.
