Amazon Haul to Compete with Temu, Shein - and 3P Sellers

Amazon launched a low-cost store called Amazon Haul that pundits had predicted as its response to Temu and Shein. But sellers who list products on Amazon could see some impact as well, since all of the under-$20 items are backed by Amazon’s A-to-z Guarantee, just like regular items on its main marketplace.

Amazon Haul, which is in beta testing, is available on mobile only, with its own search, cart, and checkout. Orders on Amazon Haul arrive in one- to two-weeks instead of Amazon’s usual speedy delivery.

Shoppers receive free delivery on orders over $25. And remarkably, they receive free returns on all Amazon Haul purchases over $3 within 15 days of delivery.

All items on Amazon Haul are priced $20 or less with the majority priced $10 and under, and some items as low as $1. Shoppers receive 5% off on orders totaling $50 or more, and 10% off on orders $75 or more.

Dharmesh Mehta, Vice President of Amazon Worldwide Selling Partner Services, said Amazon screens the products that selling partners offer in Haul so customers can be confident they’ll receive products that are safe, authentic, and compliant with applicable regulations. “It’s early days for this experience, and we’ll continue to listen to customers as we refine and expand it in the weeks and months to come,” he said in Amazon’s announcement on Wednesday.

Just in time for those shopping for Christmas stocking stuffers, Amazon Haul offers what the company called a “wide selection of items with crazy low prices,” such as “a three-piece trimmer razor set for DIY slim haircuts for $2.99; an array of colorful table runners to help decorate for the holidays for $2.99; an iPhone 16 case for $1.79; a women’s elastic stretch cinch belt for $1.99; a pair of touchscreen winter gloves for $3.21; an elegant necklace, bracelet, and earring set for $2.99; and a two-pack of kitchen tongs for grilling for $4.99.”

  1. Terrible idea and I don’t think it will succeed or help AMZ sales.
1 – it requires you use your mobile device. Bad idea. You should be able to use laptop/desktop/mobile app.
2 – It won’t put Temu or Shein out of business, which is what AMZ wants to do. TEMU & Shein are worldwide and are subsidized by the China government.

  2. I wonder if Amazon has thought out how to make this work if Trump imposes tariffs on all Chinese products or if he raises the de minimis exception from tariffs. It’s an odd time to launch a new offering built entirely or at least extensively in the ability to import cheap Chinese crap.
