Amazon announced plans to open a fulfillment center in Auburndale, Florida, its fourth in Polk County. When the site opens, Amazon will create more than 500 new, full-time jobs starting at $15 an hour.
Employees at the over one million-square-foot fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship large customer items, such as sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, bicycles, and larger household goods.
Amazon currently employs more than 13,500 full-time associates throughout the state of Florida. This fall, Amazon has announced plans for new fulfillment centers in Mississippi, Illinois, Idaho, and Toronto.
In related news, the San Jose Mercury News reported Amazon is planning to open a delivery hub in Milpitas, California. Citing a city report, the newspaper wrote, “The delivery station would receive already-packaged goods in large tractor-trailer trucks, sort them for delivery by location, and then dispatch vans for final delivery.”
