eBay to Collect Sales Tax from Buyers in Ohio

eBay will begin collecting sales tax from buyers in Ohio beginning September 1, 2019. Note that it will also begin collecting sales tax for some additional states beginning in October (link to chart on eBay help pages below).

Announcement follows:

Beginning September 1, 2019, eBay will collect sales tax on applicable transactions for buyers in Ohio. For states that we are collecting tax, you do not need to take any action. There are no extra charges or fees for this service.

Sellers may not opt-out of selling items in the states that we are collecting tax, or out of eBay automatically collecting sales tax for applicable orders.

Additional states will likely be added. Stay informed on the Help pages.

If you are exempt from paying sales tax on your eBay purchases, visit ebay.com/salestax to learn more about our buyer exemption program for tax-exempt buyers (e.g. charitable entities, resellers, etc.).
