eBay Launches Deals a Week ahead of Amazon Prime Day

eBay logoeBay is launching what it calls massive deals this week. We can’t help wondering if like many in the industry, it thought Amazon would be holding its Prime Day shopping event this week. Some believe Amazon held off a week because of the distraction of this year’s World Cup.

On the one hand, eBay may capture some back-to-school shoppers impatient for next week’s Amazon event. On the other hand, consumers could hesitate before making purchases this week to see what deals Amazon may offer next week. (And they could be distracted by soccer games!)

But last week eBay promised to run deals next week as well.

In today’s announcement, eBay wrote, “Exclusively this week, eBay is hosting one-day-only sales in its top categories from 5am – 11pm PDT on Tuesday, July 10 and Wednesday, July 11.” That sounds like it’s describing sitewide flash sales – so stay tuned.

Announcement follows:

Hot discounts, coupons, and 100+ deals for $119.

Summer is heating up, and so are the savings on eBay as it kicks off a summer season of deals and value for consumers who are looking for great prices on the things they love. Beginning today, eBay will offer more than a hundred deals for $119 – all with free shipping, no membership required. eBay is also unveiling massive discounts on hundreds of top items, as well as coupon offers this week. With no blackouts this summer, consumers are guaranteed the best prices through eBay’s recently launched Best Price Guarantee program, which offers 110% of the price difference on more than 100,000 items.

“Shoppers are smart and they want to make the most of their $119, so eBay is offering hundreds of deals with free shipping and no membership required,” said Suzy Deering, Chief Marketing Officer of eBay Americas. “We are giving our customers deals that match their interests, and will be bringing them to life through a series of new creative spots that capture the passions of our shoppers.”

  1. Have to wonder how much of the “savings” ebay will be underwriting…i.e., how much will ebay LOSE on these “deals”?
“Winning by losing” is not exactly a…uh…winning strategy.

Anybody care to guess the half-life of an ebay accountant?

  2. Ebay sales are the kind that being with ” Hey Murtle take this 20.00 hat and mark it up to 40.00 for today and then tomorrow mark it on sale for 30.00″

There is no such animal as a great deal on Ebay anymore. Heck one can hardly find anything with the mess called search.

Save yourself some time and money. Go to the other sites. Its so much easier.

  3. How do they get away with showing “always free shipping” in their blurb?
