Amazon acquired GameSparks, a technology company used by game-makers. TechCrunch had reported the acquisition in July, but confirmation of the deal only came this week.
A page on the GameSparks site showcases how a popular gaming powerhouse uses its services: “GameSparks is relied heavily upon for social aspects of Lara Croft: Relic Run, providing multiple features including partitioned Leaderboards that are optimised to support real-time rankings of large volumes of players.”
The move demonstrates Amazon’s interest in a diverse range of content – it also owns Twitch.
TechCrunch noted GameSparks will be demonstrating its platform at Amazon’s booth at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC).
Announcement follows:
We’re excited to announce that GameSparks has been acquired by Amazon!
GameSparks has long shared Amazon’s passion for helping developers create amazing gaming experiences, so it’s a natural fit. Being part of Amazon means we’ll continue to grow the service, as well as explore new ways to unlock the power of Amazon to help you build, operate, and monetize your games.
If you’re making it out to GDC 2018 in San Francisco, we hope you’ll come see us in the Amazon booth. We’ll have new demos of GameSparks in the booth and will present multiple developer day sessions that dive deep into the service. Check out Amazon’s full GDC presence here. We’d love to say hello!
Thanks for your continued support!
The GameSparks Team
