Etsy Streamlines Social Sharing for Sellers

Etsy logoEtsy is trying to make it easier for sellers to promote their shops and listings on social media sites with a new tool that centralizes the management of posts across social platforms. It makes suggestions on what sellers should share, post, tweet, and pin – and it even suggests hashtags.

A spokesperson told EcommerceBytes the tool displays six different sections to share from, based on the seller’s shop, including new items in their shop, their successes, their sales and promotions, and their 5-star reviews. The tool provides tips and advice tailored to each social media channel, including suggested hashtags.

“Sellers can share directly from one single place instead of having to toggle among various social media channels,” the spokesperson explained – and the tool suggests high-quality imagery to help sellers launch “beautiful organic campaigns.”

The centralized tool creates posts for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest inside the Etsy seller app, and it will be available for the desktop on November 16th, she said. At that time, it will also offer the ability to turn sellers’ social posts into paid Facebook ads.

Announcement follows:

You know social media marketing can be a great way to promote your products. But posting regularly on multiple networks takes time. Now you can create the perfect posts (with suggestions tailored to your shop) for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest right from the Sell on Etsy app.

Prefer to use a real keyboard instead of tapping away at tiny buttons? In November, this new tool will be accessible from your computer.

No more writer’s block

Staring at your phone wondering what to post? Open up the social media tool and find your inspiration. We’ll offer suggestions on what to share based on your shop. Running a sale or recently listed a new item? We’ll help you create a promotional post. You can also highlight your successes by sharing recent 5-star reviews of your products or shop milestones with Etsy-designed graphics and suggested text.

Make your post shine

Connect with your community and expand your reach by sharing regularly to social media. We take the guesswork out of crafting the perfect post with tips and advice tailored to each social media channel. Suggested hashtags help you reach new audiences and bring new customers to your shop. Bonus: When you share links to your listing from the social media tool, the URL will automatically be personalized so shoppers won’t see recommended items from other shops.

Get started

Get in the holiday spirit and start sharing in the Sell on Etsy app today. You’ll find the new social media tool under the More menu (make sure your app is up-to-date). You can still create and share shop updates from the tool.

With the Sell on Etsy app, you can also respond to Convos and check your open orders while you’re standing in line at the grocery store. You can download the app on iPhones or iPads running iOS 9.3 or higher and Android devices running version 4.1 or higher.

Coming soon: Facebook ads

When we add the new social media tool to the desktop version of Etsy later in November, we’ll also offer the ability to turn your social posts into paid Facebook ads. By advertising on Facebook, you can reach new audiences, and even target shoppers based on demographics or interests. You’ll also be able to create Facebook ads from the Marketing section of your Shop Manager.
