Etsy Launches New Checkout Features

Etsy is launching Guest Checkout and Buy It Now features for all shops in the coming weeks. Etsy Seller Handbook editor Taylor Combs published the following post on Thursday:

Etsy is making it easier for the millions of people who shop online to discover and purchase your products. Today, we’re introducing two new updates to checkout on Etsy: guest checkout and the buy it now button will be available for all shops in the coming weeks.

Guest checkout
With guest checkout, anyone can browse, add items to their cart, and make purchases on Etsy without creating an account. If you accept payments through Etsy Payments or PayPal your items are eligible for guest checkout. Guests can purchase from any shop on Etsy and you’ll see guest checkout orders in your shop alongside orders from signed-in Etsy members. Managing guest checkout orders is easy with features like these:

  • You’re covered: If you’re eligible for Etsy’s Seller Protection Policy you’ll also be covered for purchases made through guest checkout.
  • Easily manage your orders: You’ll see orders from guests in your Shop Manager alongside all your other orders.
  • Convenient options for buyers: Guests will receive an email receipt and shipping notifications. They will also be able to customize orders during checkout. Guests will not be able to leave reviews for their purchases.
  • Quick communication: You can use Conversations to message guests. When they reply via email, you’ll see their response in your Conversations inbox.

Buy it now button
Beginning today, buyers will have the option to make purchases even faster with a buy it now button. The buy it now button takes shoppers straight to checkout so they can complete their purchase immediately, without having to add items to their cart first. In 2015, we introduced a buy it now button for buyers and sellers in the United States. Now, Etsy shoppers will see a buy it now button on your listings, regardless of their location or the location of your shop.

The button appears on desktop, mobile web, and in the Etsy app, in addition to the add to cart button. Shoppers who use the buy it now button will have the option to review their purchase, including the shipping costs and taxes they’ll pay, before completing it.

Listings in shops that accept only manual payment methods will not have a buy it now button. You’re not required to take any action in your shop. Orders placed using the buy it now button will look the same in your Shop Manager as items purchased using the cart.
