Shippo, the leading API platform for shipping, announced they are unveiling USPS ePostage for general access. Shippo is the first and only way for any business to access USPS’s new ePostage offering. Not since 1999 has there been a new entrant in this space. The license marks an important step for USPS and Shippo as they drive innovation in the shipping space by providing a more reliable and easily accessible shipping technology for ecommerce businesses, marketplaces and platforms globally.
Shippo works with more than 10,000 businesses including fast-growing, venture-backed companies such as Mercari, Weebly, GoDaddy, Dia&Co and GOAT to help them solve shipping challenges and optimize their operations. The partnership represents a major growth opportunity for USPS as they take advantage of Shippo’s technology to onboard more businesses directly to USPS with a faster and more efficient method. Currently, established marketplaces such as Amazon and Etsy issue ePostage exclusively for members of their own communities.
“When we founded Shippo, our goal was to improve the experience for any business who does shipping by making it more accessible,” said Laura Behrens Wu, co-founder and CEO of Shippo. “Now with Shippo providing ePostage for public access, ecommerce businesses of any size can now directly connect with the USPS within minutes, and access valuable, timely information from a variety of other carriers, all from one place.”
Ecommerce is the fastest growing trillion dollar market globally. In fact, global ecommerce has grown 15 percent year-over-year. With its rapid growth, shipping for online sales represents a significant business opportunity for the USPS. As the USPS sits high on the technology adoption curve, they recognize the need to work with leading and emerging technology companies to help them grow their digital and physical operations.
Through its current agreement, any Shippo customer can access the USPS directly for postage and shipping needs, and rely on a seamless and transparent process for their shipping. Businesses of all sizes can sidestep the hurdles that often slow down their operations, which typically involves a heavy upfront investment of time and resources to integrate with the USPS, as well as other carriers, one-by-one. By working with Shippo, customers gain instant access to multiple carriers in addition to the USPS through one integration. Businesses can increase productivity and cut costs when using specialized shipping services for a variety of shipment needs. Today, Shippo supports over 20 shipping providers across North America, Europe, and Australia.
